The Role

The department is seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to focus on managing and improving the department’s system infrastructure, such as on-premises server and storage systems, multi-cloud infrastructure primarily in Microsoft Azure but may include Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud computing services, Office 365 applications, the department’s Standard Operating Environments, and end user device management (Microsoft Intune).
The position reports to the Assistant Director, Server Team. In this role you will be working within the infrastructure team, to deliver positive outcomes for the day-to-day matters relating to the support of the department’s systems. This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant contribution to the delivery of the department’s events and day to day operations through an improved maturity of the systems.
The role will be responsible for, but not limited to:
- Work effectively across teams to provide systems expertise to enhance and improve existing solutions, including designing, developing, implementing, and testing solutions, in line with business requirements and software development standards.
- Support and maintain the department’s Standard Operating Environments and end user device management.
- Ensure deadlines are consistently met and that a high standard of technical and design documentation is provided.
- Work collaboratively with other teams to investigate and resolve complex issues with the operation of infrastructure and infrastructure as code.
- Contributing to the documentation of the department’s systems.
- Contribute to providing On-call support for the department’s infrastructure and systems.
- Perform additional duties or assume responsibility of functions as directed from time to time or during an event.
The candidate requirements
Essential criteria:
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in implementing enterprise IT solutions based on-premises and utilising cloud services.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in deploying, testing, and maintaining an enterprise sized ICT environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of risk management principles and processes in context of Infrastructure management.
- Demonstrated experience with managing and migrating solution infrastructure to the Azure platform.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across all levels and influence key stakeholders.

Desirable criteria:

- Develop and maintain of SIEM alerts and dashboards to aid with threat detection.

- Utilise available threat intelligence to enrich alerts.
- Develop and maintain team SOPs and playbooks for SIEM management and configuration, including, alert exclusions and alert tuning.

The candidate requirements
Essential criteria:
- Demonstrated experience managing/maintaining logging and SIEM technologies
- Demonstrated knowledge of cyber security principles and processes in a defensive context
- Demonstrated ability to develop alerting rules and dashboards to assist with threat detection and incident response.
- Ability to learn and understand how the operating environment functions normally and effectively identify anomalies when they occur
- Demonstrated experience with development practices and DevOps pipelines.
Desirable criteria:
- Experience with Azure Sentinel, Kusto Query Language (KQL) and Azure logging mechanisms
- Experience with Microsoft’s suite of security tools, including Azure Security Centre, Microsoft 365, and Microsoft ‘Defender for’ tools (Endpoint, Identity, etc.)
- Experience managing a Windows environment, including patching, Active Directory and Group Policy management.

Working within the Data Platforms and Education Systems branch, the Solution Architects will work within the digital solutions teams and liaise with the Architecture, Design and Development branch. Helping to design and build solutions to support multiple, multi-year projects that cut across different program areas, including the department’s Skills and Training programs and the Department of Education’s Schools, Higher Education, Research and International programs.
We are looking for solution architects with experience and expertise delivering modern, cloud based solutions across a range of technologies, including Azure services, Power Platform, D365, Power BI and .NET frameworks
The Architect will be required to:
- Engage with stakeholders through service experience research and requirement gathering
- Interpret functional and non-functional requirements to guide and inform solution design and development.
- Develop and maintain architectural diagrams, blueprints, and technical documentation that clearly articulate the solution design.
- Work closely with technology and development teams within the branch and wider ICT cohort to ensure proposed solutions are fit for purpose and meet security requirements.
- Work with enterprise architects and other solution architects across projects to identify common patterns and opportunities for re-use
- Identify potential risks and develop mitigation plans to ensure project success.

- Extensive experience in delivering cloud based solution designing medium to large organisations, with demonstrated coverage of architecture deliverables across business, information, applications and infrastructure
- Excellent understanding and demonstrated application of current architectural design patterns, standards, technologies and techniques including Architectural frameworks such as ToGAF or similar models.
- Demonstrated experience in delivering capability using the Systems Engineering lifecycle

The ideal candidate will have a sound understanding of cloud architecture and services and are responsible for providing expert advice with regards to Azure implementations. This role is a technical, services-orientated role that collaborates closely with architects, developers, and on-premises operations staff. This role is responsible for automating and supporting Azure testing, development, administration, and maintenance.
Automation and Integration Engineers are responsible for scripting/automating tasks wherever possible, continuous delivery, configuration management, and the deployment of modules, upgrades and hot fixes within production environments.
Routine maintenance is an ongoing task, therefore, engineers of this discipline are often the same technicians performing second or third level support on systems and applications. Their primary functions cross and merge the barriers that exist between traditional software development, testing and operations teams and keep existing networks in mind as they design, plan and test. This role has experience with Azure DevOps and GitHub.
Responsibilities:
- Identify and automate manual processes for new systems and products.
- Maintain existing integration and delivery pipelines, ensuring processes are standardised and reused.
- Provide Infrastructure as Code (IaC) support to all development and production environments.
- Maintain, configure and develop dynamic containerised environments in support of development and production. This ranges from greenfield serverless environments to full stack brownfield environments.
- Reduce the time it takes to build, deploy, and configure software to all environments.
- Joint owner of all development and release tooling, processes and architecture.
- Assists in developing application monitoring solutions across cloud and on-prem solutions.
