Gateway Synergy is looking for a highly experienced Senior Network Engineer for a government agency who hold active TSPV security clearances. An exciting opportunity is open for a rapidly growing project. Be part of a team that makes meaningful changes and improves Australian lives. 

The Role
The agency is seeking candidates who hold active TSPV security clearances. Network Engineers perform and achieve network design and network planning work.

We require multiple EL1 equivalent Network Engineers to fill positions across the organisation. A merit pool will be created for future positions that may arise. Suitable candidates will be required to complete agency’s Organisational Suitability Assessment (OSA). This will be required either prior to commencing or within 12 months of commencement, as required by the assigned work area. The agency will allocate successful candidates to work areas based on operational needs.

The Network Engineer will exercise a considerable degree of independence and perform subject matter expert role. They will exercise sound decision-making and judgement to provide expert policy advice. They will have in-depth knowledge of the service delivery function and are responsible for the development, implementation, compliance and review of policies and procedures relevant to their work within that function. They will engage in very complex problem solving and issues management and may coordinate and perform detailed or sensitive projects that impact on strategic, political or operational outcomes for the agency. They will be responsible for actively managing key stakeholder relationships and will be required to identify relevant stakeholders’ expectations and concerns to develop and communicate methodologies and practices to achieve outcomes. They will be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development of their work area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accountable for accurate completion of work within timeframes and quality requirements, share own expertise with others and guide and mentor less experienced employees.
  • Establish and lead network planning for own area of responsibility and designs the infrastructure necessary to provide the network services to meet service level agreements.
  • Maintain and apply detailed knowledge and experience related to the current Defence and industry accepted network hardware and software products.
  • Has expertise in change management and applies this to ensure the continuity of network operations and business functions during network installation or integration tasks.
  • Build and sustain relationships, liaise with a range of stakeholders including other teams, peers and colleagues across Defence and other organisations.
  • Motivate and mentor teams, aligning complementary skills and allocate resources in a manner that delivers results.
  • Evaluate projects to understand critical factors for success and engage in activities to achieve continuous improvement.
  • Analyse very complex network engineering issues, applying expertise to identify and recommend courses of action.
  • Responsible for significant aspects of the installation, upgrade, operation, control and effective use of local and wide area networks for the communication of data, voice, audio, text or images.
  • Undertake network installations in accordance with detailed design documentation and guidance.

The Candidate
Essential Criteria:

  • AVMT 5: Provides advice and guidance on the planning, design and improvement of service and component availability. Investigates all breaches of availability targets and service non-availability and initiates remedial activities. Develops plans for
    disaster recovery together with supporting processes. Manages the testing of disaster recovery plans.
  • CPMG 4: Monitors service component capacity and initiates actions to resolve any shortfalls according to agreed procedures. Applies techniques to control the demand upon a particular resource or service. Contributes to capacity modelling and planning. Supports the design of service component capacity.
  • ITOP 4: Provides technical expertise to enable the correct application of operational procedures. Contributes to the planning and implementation of infrastructure maintenance and updates. Implements agreed infrastructure changes and maintenance routines. Uses infrastructure management tools to determine load and performance statistics. Configures tools and/or creates scripts to automate the provisioning, testing and deployment of new and changed infrastructure. Maintains operational procedures and checks that they are executed following agreed standards. Investigates and enables the resolution of operational issues. Provides reports and proposals for improvement, to specialists, users and managers.
  • PBMG 4: Initiates and monitors actions to investigate and resolve problems in systems, processes and services. Determines problem fixes and remedies. Collaborates with others to implemented agreed remedies and preventative measures. Supports analysis of patterns and trends to improve problem management processes.
  • HSIN 5: Takes responsibility for installation and/or decommissioning projects. Provides effective team leadership, including information flow to and from the customer during project work. Develops and implements quality plans and method statements. Monitors the effectiveness of installations and ensures that appropriate recommendations for change are made.

Technical skills

  • Holds a Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology or related fields.
  • Strong understanding of network fundamentals, such as protocols, architectures, devices, topologies and standards.
  • Ability to design and implement network solutions that meet the business & technical requirements of ASD.
  • Knowledge & experience of network security.
  • Proficient in network automation.
  • Proven experience in network systems configuration, testing & installations.

The Role
